About Me

I'm a psychologist based in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia. I identify as a cisgender woman and use she/her pronouns. While I specialise in psychological trauma, I also assist individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, existential questions, work and study challenges, and more. By integrating Narrative Therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), I offer a holistic and personalised therapeutic approach. My goal is to facilitate transformative experiences that unlock new possibilities and contribute to a more meaningful, fulfilling life. I'm committed to fostering cultural humility by continually educating myself about social identities different from my own and challenging my biases and assumptions. I recognise that issues of intersectionality manifest uniquely in therapy and strive to create a safe space for individuals to explore and address these concerns. Currently, I split my time between my role as a research fellow in post-disaster mental health and running my private practice as a clinician, supervisor, and trainer. Residing on the lands of the Kulin Nations, I acknowledge with respect that this is Aboriginal land, always has been, and always will be. As a mental health professional, I acknowledge the enduring impact of colonisation and dispossession on First Nations peoples. I celebrate their healing practices, resilience, and support their sovereignty. Sarah Strauven is a registered Psychologist based in Richmond, she provides session in person, or via telehealth (online).
